Darac was one of the places Josh and Amanda took me to. Who is Josh and Amanda?
They love food as much as I do. They proceed to convert me into a Korean food fan. Darac is busy and for good reason. It has a lovely atmosphere with all that brick and wall art.
See the drink in front of them? Its yakult soju. Its great for beginners in the world of alcohol. I used to drink yakult as a child. This adult version brings me back to my younger days where one serve is not enough. It wasn’t.
Amanda has really good taste in food and she is an awesome cook. So I let her pick the dishes. The first one we had was the soy marinated ox tongue grilled to perfection in a salad. You can tell this is the salad for meat lovers.
Since it was so cold, we craved for a hot soupy dish. The hot pots dominated the menu. We picked the army stew that was spicy. It had sausage, fish cake, kim chi, luncheon meat in it. Interestingly, it had cheese. No wonder it is referred to as army food. A lot of what went in there were canned favourites. The pot was overflowing with spicy kim chee flavours. Yum!
I forgot the name of this dish but it is the loveliest pork dish ever. I tried calling the restaurant. The conversation went like this:
Lady: Hello… Darac
Me: Hi…I would like to know the name of one of the dishes you have…
Lady: ehhhh..? mmmmm….
Me: It is pork and it is milky looking.
Lady: ….you want to book?
Me: No.. I want to know the name of a dish you have..
Lady: uhhh….10 minute? mmm… mmmm…
Me: ok
-hold-
Lady: Yes….? I… I..
Me: I want to know the name of the pork dish you have. Its milky
Lady: uhhhhh? You want to book?
Me: No… what is the pork dish you have? I want to know the name… Can you put me to someone who can speak english??
Lady: uhhh. uhhhh….
(lots of background noise…and she hangs up)
Can’t say I didn’t try!
Anyway, the mince had a milky undertone (although it looks like it would be a milky overtone) that lingered in such a way you will be spooning the next piece into your mouth soon after. Moorish.
Finally, we had the seafood pancake. I’m not normally a great fan of this chewy pancake but its usually one of the favourites of those who love Korean food. This pancake is less starchy than the ones I have eaten in the past. Every bite was filled generously with prawns and scallops. I think I like it now!
