This year for Valentines Day, I was surprised I even got flowers from my husband. I came down the stairs and did my own thing and wondering why he is just standing around (through the side of my eye)..and then realised there was a bunch of beautiful oriental lilies and pink roses on the table. I smiled and said ‘ awww thank you baby…muah..’. He said ‘ its not from me!’ Naturally, I was surprised and opened up the card…which read ‘Especially Lorraine, I couldn’t resist! Love your attentive hubby’ … haha.
We celebrated Valentines Day a little later on the 17th February. I remember Jay calling me about a month before 14 February distressed that he could not get a table at Nobu for V-day….and if it was okay if we celebrated a little later. How sweet is he? I told him fret not. I didn’t expect to celebrate it anyway.
As our table was not available straight away, we were first taken to the bar where Jay ordered a dirty martini and I ordered a strawberry cocktail. Jay had just come from work but I was on the infinity all day drinking and drinking and drinking. Did I need more drinks? Yes.
Thanks to Annie whom I met at Jasvir’s going away, I was given a nice table with a good view over the Much talked about Cabanas and pool… (which Prithi and I lounged at recently.. more on that to come)… Overall, I like the atmosphere. It was busy AND noisy yet I felt Jay and I had our little private corner (which we didn’t…. it just FELT like it..) Service is pretty good too – the bartender was so helpful, the waitress knew her dishes and could explain them and if a service staff could not help, he or she would immediately send someone who could over. Obviously, the hostess was amazing!
She did give me a nice table haha.
I was advised on what to order – so we ditched the set menu and ordered ala carte! First up was the yellowtail with Jalapeño (I still hear the J pronounced from time to time – just for information sake, its HA-Lapeno!). As expected the yellowtail is tres fresh and the jalapeño and vinegary sauce gave it a nice hot kick! Love coriander with anything … O.M.G. Disclaimer: I was drunk so my taste buds might not have been working very well.
Jay decides to be all romantic by feeding me.
Awww. haha.
CHEERS!
to many more Valentines Days to come…
I love being married. Seriously. I highly recommend it.
NEXT: We had the Octopus Tiradito (has to be based on Peru Delights) which had a chilli garlic dot on it, pepper flakes and lemon juice (I think!) over it. Mmm. It is so weird that I am having Peruvian food yet feel like I am having Japanese food! Food for thought!
What was highly recommended was the Pork Tacos. It was filled with tender juicy pork and flavoured with an Aji Maria (Please correct spelling if you know this) sauce. These surprising delicate little treats melts in your mouth and the taco is addictive!!
Of course, we had to have the famous miso cod which Jay fell in love with immediately – the fish broke in chips and fatty goodness. The caramelised miso flavour added dimension (texture and flavour) to this beautiful fish.
Finally, the creamy spicy crab which I liked but Jay is not a fan of since he does not like mayonnaise (how lucky)! A thick layer of spicy Japanese mayonnaise covers a generous layer of crab meat and tobiko
fish roe! Hope you enjoyed the food porn!
