Cantina 663 – Perth Lurve

I love Cantina 663.
They have been great be it for lunch or dinner. I went to red cabbage recently and had two similar dishes but Cantina 663 KICKS ASS in terms of taste and serving and price. It is also trendy and I was so surprised that they used the Italian convention of using a carafe! I felt like I was back on my honeymoon! Service is good and seeing different styles of people (punk included) made the atmosphere!

The first dish is the duck liver parfait. We did not expect such a big block! Its served with glorious onion jam and toasted baguette? Batard? ______(insert name of a light, soft bread mmmm). The parfait was lighter than expected and had a flavour I found really familiar. It took me a while before I began to realise it was a flavour in Super Rings (a snack I had when I was young…). Oh my god, I realised they might have put a cheese powder or maybe even an onion powder in it to give it that lingering milky taste.

I found the best way to have it is to coat the bread with a thick layer of parfait + a thin layer of onion jam. Heavenly.

Second dish is the Kingfish Ceviche. I was a bit reluctant at first because I saw capers on the menu. However, they were the baby ones and did not take away from the overall dish. The kingfish is fresh and cooked slightly. I hate it when it is overcooked. Its mixed with fresh chopped tomatoes, chives and some sort of fried bread/ baby croutons for texture.

Finally, we had the pig tail cake with pulled chicken in chipotle hot sauce. This was ordered on recommendation by the waiter who ‘loves this the most’. Jay mmm-mmmmed from the moment he took a bite into the braised wings. Its tasty but I expected hotter from the hot sauce. The pig tail cake was a bit dry – its the first time I had tried it so perhaps this is how it should be. I am not sure. It is airy and spiced with onion and perhaps chilli!

Last but not least, here is a picture of my real love. :) I was told recently that lots of girls love him and so its cool that he loves MOI. haha. Ego boost there. Such a handsome man – I am not surprised.
