Tasting at Third Avenue

On recommendation, I had decided to go ahead with Prithi’s favourite chef, Anthony, who runs the Third Avenue Cafe in Mount Lawley. He was so accommodating that he opened up the restaurant for Saturday lunch just for the 14 of us!

The group except for Jay

The boozy lunch ended up lasting for 3 hours and 30 minutes, over 9 types of canapés and 4 pizzas. I think he was very surprised to see little asians eat so much.

This time, I used Jay’s professional camera. It was manual so I have loads of pictures without light in it. Neither Sarah nor I knew how to use it! I had to use the photo software on my mac to lighten the pics like hell but some could not be saved! Oh well!

Sarah and I had the tour of the kitchen and pre-made food. mmmmm!

Anthony! Yes – a very good example of our inability to use the camera.

Anthony showed us the soft, fresh quail eggs… as well as the dukkah he made himself! (see below for Dukkah) The aroma wafted and nearly killed Sarah in ecstasy. She was like ‘ MMMMMM I LOVE THE SMELL!’

The arancini balls – filled with peas and basil and saffron.

Fish Goujons – lots of lemon thrown in mmm.

The sous chef – who makes the best pistachio brittle. We ate some. YUM.

Right now, he is making gnocchi for us. I love that its on the spot! Mmmm!

Another shot by Sarah – had to adjust it – there was no light!

Jay and his boys: Chee, Tony, Nick, Sugi and Jay

Girl Shot (Left and clockwise): Sarah, Me, Theresa, Jess and Debbie.

Peek-a-boo says Nelly!

Food is served – Round one: (Left to right) Canellini crostini, arancini with romesco sauce and quail egg rolled in dukkah.

The Moscato was unsurprisingly a hit with the ladies… Sweet and yummy!

Gnocchi – basil and tomato. Mmm… 2 people who claimed Gnocchi wasn’t their favourite said that this is actually really good! ” 10 over 10 “, one said.

Braised Duck in hoisin(above) for the Peking duck pancake (below) – Love!

Left to right: Calzone, Chicken Kiev and Fish Goujons.. I liked the Goujons the best because it was crumbly and lemony…

Thought I should have an eating shot here…

Anthony setting the seafood out.

Lime/coriander/chilli prawns (left) and scallops with mash underneath (right) …
The prawns were my favourite – it had been a while since I tasted such tasty prawns from the inside! I was also surprised that it was juicy despite being grilled.

Rosemary chicken – sounded so boring and normal but tasted extraordinary! It was very tender, juicy and flavorful – all the right things about chicken!

I would recommend this cafe – and to be honest, so will many people. It was booked out several weekends and that is why we had to open the restaurant just for the tasting for lunch! So book!
