Nahm Thai

Nahm Thai was good but still no where near the standard of longrain in Sydney. When I saw the decor of the restaurant, I immediately thought of Star Anise. We were seated and our waiter came by. ‘ My name is Dennis, how are you today? ‘ in a German accent – which was I found totally unexpected in a Thai restaurant. I apologise for the bad pictures. The lighting was not optimal for simple digital cameras.
For entrees, we had the soft shell crab that Dennis recommended. It was tasty but it was neither special nor surprising. It was served with a tangy, typically Thai sauce that overpowered the grilled watermelon that came with it.

That’s Sugi whom I suspect is following me. I bumped into him last night at the frozen yoghurt place too. I think he is the fiancĂ©’s spy. There he is ‘entertaining’ his ‘business clients’ but really turning to spy on me… haha.. I’m only kidding.

For the mains, we ordered a special – which was the grilled barramundi green curry. It was delicious although I craved the authentic Thai vegetables that the curries in longrain had.

Karin enjoyed the salt and pepper tofu which was made fusion by the julienned apple salad that it was served with. It was fried for too long – making it hard instead of letting some softness of the tofu remain. Once again, the one I had at longrain was wayyy better. Nahm Thai is actually considered the best Thai restaurant in Perth… is that possible?

There were four desserts on the menu – of which this dessert is the one that Dennis did not recommend. He was always suggesting the ‘safe’ dishes like Lemon tart or glutinous rice with mango. Fortunately, we decided to go against his recommendations (which is unusual for me) and boy was this good.

This is the mung bean dumpling in a palm sugar sauce and topped with coconut cream. It was warm and the glutinous skin tore softly between your teeth allowing the mung bean filling to ooze into your mouth in such a comforting manner. The sauce was perfect – that even health conscious Karin scooped a few more spoonfuls down.

Overall, service was good. You can bring a date here and have a conversation. The food was tasty but did not meet expectations. For a place that is supposed to be of a high standard, I was disappointed. Nahm Thai gets an overall 7 from me.

  1. She has so much attitude, whats wrong with white people working in a Thai Restaurant??? Wait, actually I’m the big fat bitch using an anonymous name to troll her. Don’t mind me!

  2. Hello anonymous! Sorry for the giving you the wrong idea..There is nothing wrong at all. Like I said before it was totally unexpected since before that, I had never seen Caucasians working in an Asian restaurant. :) In fact, I mentioned that service was good so I am unsure as to where you got the idea that I meant there was something wrong.
