Hong Kong BBQ

Ed and I went to lunch at the Hong Kong BBQ in Northbridge for lunch today. In his opinion, they have the best  Cantonese roast in town. ( Better than Good Fortune??? ) I still cannot make the judgement about the roast duck because that was not what we ordered. Especially after flabbergasting Ed with the words ‘ What is violin duck? ‘

When friends and I go out for dinner, we would order a dish each. I would look down the list and see ‘ Violin Duck ‘ and never order it in case I make a mistake. I always wondered what it was – and never knew until today.. It must be a Perth thing because I have not seen it anywhere in Singapore – a place where you would surely have to spot food that good!

Oh, violin duck. I must have eaten it in a dream. It looked exactly like roast duck but when I put my teeth into it, the crispy skin gave way so differently. It was far crispier than roast duck. The flesh was also much more tender..its juices ran under my tongue. Why would anyone eat roast duck if they could have violin duck?

Yum succulent violin duck

What I can compare and say is that they have one of the best roast pork I have tasted in town.. Really succulent flesh, really crispy skin and really big serving.

My favourite way to have Cantonese roasts is with noodles. Just order a plain dry noodle and it comes with vegetables to supplement the meal.

Viola, you have the perfect meal!
